Finishing Touch Signs Supports Wausau Marathon and Community Spirit

A marathon is more than a race route, a finish line, and a clock. In Wausau, it is a community event built by neighbors, volunteers, sponsors, families, runners, and local businesses that care about where they live.

Finishing Touch Signs is proud to partner with the Wausau Marathon in support of that community spirit. Our team has produced more than 20 banners for marathon sponsors and has helped spread the word about the race across the area. For us, this partnership is a natural fit. Wausau supports local businesses like ours every day, and we believe in showing up for the people and events that make this community strong.

This year, the Wausau Marathon will take place on August 23, with registration open through August 21. The event is organized as a nonprofit, and all funds are donated back to organizations throughout Marathon County.

One of the most exciting parts of this partnership is the role our own employee, Patrick, has taken on.

Patrick has been appointed Community Liaison for the Wausau Marathon. In that role, he is helping bring energy, awareness, and excitement to the community as race day approaches.

A community liaison does more than pass along details. The role is about connection. It means helping local residents, businesses, volunteers, and supporters understand why the event matters and how they can be part of it.

Scott shared why this race is so personal to him:

“The marathon has a lot of personal meaning to me, my late wife, Shannon Smith, was born in Wausau. She passed away on August 21, 2018 and the marathon takes place around that date each year. It’s a way for her friends and family to come together and do something positive in the Wausau community in her name.”

The timing of the event, taking place near the anniversary of Shannon Smith’s passing, turns race weekend into a meaningful gathering. It creates space for remembrance, connection, and action. Friends and family can come together in a way that honors her life while also doing good for the community where she was born.

For participants and supporters who may not know Scott or Shannon personally, the story still matters. It reminds everyone that local events are often built from real lives and real relationships. Behind the planning, signs, routes, registration, timing, and logistics, there are people with personal reasons for giving their time.
